One of the top reasons Connecticut homeowners tell us they aren’t sure they want to get a core test is because they’re afraid their insurance company will drop them or not renew their policy if it turns out they do have a bad foundation. If you find yourself in this group, we’re here to tell you that this is one thing you don’t need to worry about!
State of Connecticut Insurance Department on Crumbling Foundations
The State of Connecticut Insurance Department has declared that:
- Insurance companies can not cancel or non-renew policies or increase the premium of policies solely because a house has a crumbling foundation.
- If you find out you do have a crumbling foundation but decide not to repair it, your insurance companies still can’t cancel your policy, increase your premiums, or add surcharges for this reason.
- Insurance companies can’t use information from a claim or any other source concerning a crumbling foundation inquiry or a claim to underwrite a policy, or when determining pricing or surcharging on new policies or renewals, for both homeowners and condo associations.

Crumbling Foundation Core Testing
You may be eligible for 50% reimbursement (up to $2,000) for core testing through a program from the Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG). We are an approved core testing contractor and usually have core sample results back from the lab in about 3-4 weeks. While we’re at your house, we can answer any questions you may have about identifying the problem and replacing a foundation.
